With NHS England signalling for some time that a model neighbourhood framework is forthcoming, anticipation is growing around the direction it will set for commissioning and provision of neighbourhood health services.

This renewed national focus on neighbourhood health reflects a wider shift: policymakers and system leaders increasingly recognise that neighbourhood‑level perspectives offer vital insight into the real conditions shaping people’s lives.

As prevention, health inequalities and community‑based care move higher up the political agenda, this is an important moment to explore how local-level understanding can inform the next decade of health policy – and to engage with the emerging approaches that may shape the implementation of the framework, once published.

To support that conversation, we’ve produced a new report examining how neighbourhood health is already happening in parts of the country, highlighting promising community‑led practice, and identifying gaps where sustained attention could have the greatest impact.
